"O" and "Mac" are both of Gaelic origin. "O" means "grandson of" (not simply "of" as mentioned above); "Mac" means "son of". Personally, I wouldn't have invented "O"; "Mac''''''Mac" is clearly the appropriate refactoring. -- ConanDalton
