1951-07-09, the Ferranti company inaugurated the Mark I machine, a derivative of the machine that had been built by FrederickWilliams and TomKilburn at the University of Manchester. The Ferranti Mark I marked the beginning of a line of commercial machines in the United Kingdom that would form the basis of the British computer industry.
