The central character in HpLovecraft's Dreamlands saga, which includes "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath," as well as "The Silver Key," and "Beyond the Gate of the Silver Key."

In the latter two stories, I see him as a kind of Icarus figure, who nearly nearly achieves enlightenment, only to fall in a peculiarly Lovecraftian way. --KellyRook
